# How do I set reminders for Tasks and Events?

Reminders help ensure important Tasks and Events aren't overlooked by sending notifications before they occur.

You can choose from several preset reminder options or configure a reminder for a specific date and time.

### Set a reminder

When creating or editing a **Task** or **Event**, locate the **Reminder** field.

Open the dropdown and select when you would like to be reminded.

Available reminder options include:

- At start
- 5 minutes before
- 10 minutes before
- 15 minutes before
- 30 minutes before
- 1 hour before
- 12 hours before
- 1 day before
- Custom
- On date

After selecting a reminder, save your Task or Event.

### Standard reminder options

Most reminder options are relative to the scheduled start date and time of the Task or Event.

For example, selecting **1 day before** sends a notification exactly one day before the scheduled start time.

### Use an **On date** reminder

The **On date** option allows you to choose an exact calendar date and time for your reminder.

Unlike the other reminder options, it is **not** calculated relative to the Task or Event's scheduled date or time.

This is useful when you want to be reminded on a completely different day.

For example:

- A Task is due on **July 31**, but you want a reminder on **July 1** to begin planning.
- An annual insurance renewal is scheduled for December, but you'd like a reminder on **November 1** to gather documents.
- An Event takes place next month, but you want a reminder the week before to confirm attendees or make travel arrangements.

After selecting **On date**, simply choose the date and time when you'd like the reminder to be sent.

### Use a custom reminder

If the preset options don't meet your needs, choose **Custom**.

Custom reminders allow you to define your own reminder interval relative to the scheduled start of the Task or Event.

### Recurring Tasks and Events

Reminders work with both one-time and recurring Tasks and Events.

For recurring items, reminders are sent for each occurrence based on the selected reminder settings.

### All-day Tasks and Events

If a Task or Event is marked as **All-day**, reminders are based on the scheduled date rather than a specific time unless you use the **On date** option.

 Notes

- Reminders are optional but recommended for important or time-sensitive Tasks and Events.
- Each Task or Event can have one reminder configured.
- To receive reminders, your notification preferences must be enabled in Nines.
- If you change the scheduled date or time of a Task or Event, any relative reminders are automatically updated. **On date** reminders remain fixed to the specific date and time you selected unless you edit them.
